About Us

The Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie was born in 2015, thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers and municipal staff who wanted to create something special for the region. Their vision was to combine cycling, local culture, and tourism into an event that would not only celebrate healthy living but also extend the tourism season into September, when the weather is perfect for riding—not too hot, not too cold.

Since its first edition, the Fondo has attracted hundreds of participants every year. While the event took a pause during the pandemic, it returned in 2023 and 2025 and is now set to become an annual tradition every second weekend of September. Typically, 700 to 900 cyclists join the ride, supported by an incredible team of 100–150 volunteers who ensure everything runs smoothly.

What makes the Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie truly special is not just the beautiful coastal roads, but the whole experience: locals cheering on cyclists along the route, friendly volunteers at each rest stop, unique snacks like local dried fish, and, of course, the famous lobster dinner that marks the end of the ride. Each ride is much more than just a cycling event: it's a celebration of community, culture, and the joy of riding in one of Nova Scotia's most beautiful regions.
