In November 2023, the Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie (GFBSM) was honoured with the Tourism Champion Award from the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia (TIANS). Presented by Halifax Stanfield International Airport during the TIANS Tourism Summit, this award recognizes organizations that exemplify leadership, innovation, and excellence within Nova Scotia’s tourism industry.
The Tourism Champion Award celebrates those who advocate for the best interests of the province’s tourism sector while strengthening their communities through collaboration, creativity, and outstanding service.
A Community Effort
Since its inception in 2015, Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie has embodied these values. What began as a challenge from Council to create an event with positive social and economic impacts has grown into the largest cycling event east of Quebec—thanks to the dedication of the organizing committee, hundreds of volunteers, local businesses, and residents.
In accepting the award, Committee Chairperson Pam Doucet expressed gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the event’s success:
“All members of the organizing committee—past and present—the many volunteers, Clare residents, businesses, and participants have all played an important role in achieving this award. The idea grew into the biggest cycling event east of Quebec. We are both proud and honoured to receive this recognition.”
Marketing Lead Larry Peach added:
